“The most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor
is the mind of the oppressed.”
Steve Biko.
In this world of fast technological development and economic globalization, every individual has to have the choice to participate in it in the way is best according to him or her. In developing countries like Brazil and Malawi, most of the people don't have that choice but do have the strong desire to be able to choose. Lack of information forms a mass unable to criticize its surroundings and decide on its own needs and necessities. For most young people this leads to frustration and anger and the decision to find it’s way to criminal activities and prostitution.
Caramundo believes that access to information is the door to knowledge and knowledge is the basis for independent thinking. Independent thinking is the road to autonomy to choose in society. And autonomy on a personal and a professional level is what every individual needs to be able to live in dignity.
Vehicles of communication that are most accessible for both analphabets and people with an educational background are artistic expressions. That’s why Caramundo supports innovating initiatives that provide access to information and democratization of information through creative expression and cultural exchanges between the north and the south. The exchange of information on different levels between the north and the south enables youth to broaden their horizons and strengthen their self-esteem.
Caramundo gives support in the form of fundraising activities and facilitation of means and goods for those who usually lack opportunities to develop their initiatives. We also seek to make connections between socio-educational projects and the corporate world in order to give young talented people the chance to learn and use their skills.
Caramundo consists of a small team of creative minds contributing with their skills and knowledge to the success of Caramundo’s projects. All people work on a voluntary basis.
