Camera Mundo Independent Filmfestival, Brasil Edition

camera mundologo

Camera Mundo is an international film festival that pays special attention to independent small scale, low budget productions, will give the producers of the films the chance to be seen in the international film scene. Camera Mundo starts its first edition with a special focus on Brazil. The years following, other countries will be in the picture.

Experience has shown that international attention has a very positive impact on the position and opportunities for the filmmakers once they’re back home. With Camera Mundo, we aim to open a new stage on an international level, and create opportunities for independent filmmakers that lack those opportunities in their countries, or find it difficult to get themselves introduced into this world.

The festival will host a special edition of animations and short films that are made in youth projects in favelas of big cities from all over Brazil.
Many organizations work with film and photography in favelas as to get kids involved in a creative process of self-reflection and analysis of the world they live in. The results are of amazing quality  and very interesting for people that don’t know nothing about the daily life in a favela.

Apart from creating an international stage for quality productions that run the risk to end up in a dusty closet, Caramundo also wants to show a Brazil from the point of view of Brazilians from different social backgrounds to an international audience. Hopefully we can contribute to a less stereotype view of Brazil and its very diverse population and cultures.

Gallery Severo 172 - Exhibitions

Gallery Severo 172 has as it's objective to make street art like graffiti, accessible for a larger audience in different settings.

Since the opening, in July, three exclusive exhibitions are held in the gallery. All consist of a variety of graffiti paintings and objects decorated with graffiti elements. Graffiti used in fashion is one of the subjects being explored in the gallery. The idea of the gallery is to diminish the gap between interior decoration and street art; the street as a public space is in a certain way our house and the gap between private and public space can be overcome showing how street art can be decorative in private space as well.

Inviting known and unknown graffiti artists from Brazil and abroad to exhibit their work in Severo 172, will make the exchange of ideas and technical knowledge between those artists and the audience possible; doing so creating a meeting point for graffiti in Rio de Janeiro and giving rise to a source of artistic creations on an international level.

All art exposed in the gallery by all means is for sale. Part of the profit will always be used for the continuity of the workshops Nação realizes in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

NaçãO - From street art to graphic design

Nação means nation, gathered people, cooperation and union and is a wordplay of Na-ação (Portuguese for 'in action'). Nação finds its’ roots in a group of young rebellious graffiti-writers of the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro who all wanted more then only color the highway city walls contributing to freedom of speech and thought through critical messages and socially sharp paintings. In a four-year period all members of Nação acquired skills and knowledge in vast areas of design, all contributing in a unique way to an artistic collective that’s ready to explore the market as a business.

Starting a business in graphic design, web design, artistic stage design, clothing and commercial painting Nação will generate a respectable income for all members of the crew.

Apart from working in the graphic area Nação will use part of the profit to invest in graffiti workshops for young children of poor neighborhoods and advanced courses in graphic- and web design as well. Those workshops and courses will keep young boys and girls away from drug traffic, prostitution and other forms of violence and guide them into a creative and constructive process towards independency.

On a long-term planning young talented participants in courses can link up in the designer’s collective of Nação and move autonomously on a commercial path.

Nação will generate profit doing commercial web design, graphics as designing logos, flyers, folders, business cards on national and international level. As Nação shows being successful in getting more assignments, the company can grow and generate more jobs, reducing youth poverty and stimulating artistic education in combination with the entrance to the commercial market.

Caramundo supports Nação in raising capital to start up the official business, structure a decent administration, marketing and communication and will be the bridge between them and the international market.
